For School Going Children
Portlaose Gymnastics Junior SQUAD PROGRAMME
A junior gymnast has to be invited into the Junior Programme. Gymnasts can be selected from the Developmental Programme or from the Gymstart classes . Selection criteria is based on a condition and skills test which we have created and can be seen in the gym.
Girls in junior squads will train and compete in Women’s Artistic Level 2-5 in General Levels or Plus Levels. Gymnasts in this programme will train 3 to 4 sessions a week with sessions lasting 2 hours. They are also expected to train on their strength and flexibility at home.
Boys in junior squad will train towards and compete as Men’s Artistic Level 1 competitions. They are expected to train 3 sessions per week each session between 1.5 and 2 hrs. They are also expected to train at home on their strength and flexibility.
Junior boys and girls will compete at Gymnastic Irelands National Competitions in Artistic Gymnastics. There are usually 2 or 3 competitions held per year and are held at the National Sports Arena in Dublin.
Cognitive Skills and Healthy Bones
Excercise is paramount to a childs congnitive development and Gymnastics is one of the best ways to improve cognitive skills. It is also weigth bearing so helps to strangthen and build strong bones
Confidence and Self Esteem
As with any new activity learned and mastered to some degree, it brings confidence and self esteem at having achieved a new skill.

Children love rolling and tumbling around and the Portlaosie Gymnastic center has a fantasic facilty to accomodate classes in a fun, safe, supervised and friendly environment.
